Egypt Volunteer Fire Department Timeline

1945 -

  • December 14 ... 26 people met in the Egypt School House, on Palmyra Rd to organize the Egypt Fire Association.

    1946 -

  • January ... Marty Hoyt was first Chief and Amos Rush was first president
  • Purchased a Ford pumper from U.S. Government and purchased land for firehall
  • Incorporated February 27.

    1947 -

  • August ... Started to build firehall.

    1948 -

  • September 13 ... First meeting held in new firehall.

    1949 -

  • Assocation borrowed $1500 from members to buy material to finish firehall
  • Held Open House January 23
  • Ladies Auxiliary formed.

    1950 -

  • Siren fixed so it could be activated from Nelson's Store.

    1951 -

  • Egypt Fire Protection District formed.

    1952 -

  • Firemen had to call telephone to find out where fire was, had to use code word to get information.
  • Purchase chassis for tank truck

    1953 -

  • Marty Hoyt, our first Chief died unexpectedly.
  • Tanker completed

    1954 -

  • Purchased new siren.
  • Enlarged kitchen and added on hall.

    1955 -

  • Fire Police organized.

    1956 -

  • January 14 .. 148 people attended 10th anniversary banquet.
  • First fund drive.
  • First turkey raffle.

    1957 -

  • September 25 ... Purchased Pumper P-14 , 750GPM pump

    1958 -

  • February and March meetings held together due to bad snow storm.
  • First telephone in firehall.
  • Point system started.

    1960 -

  • Monday night drills started.
  • Fairport Recreation started using back field for summer programs.

    1961 -

  • Bought an old hand pumper from Mendon for parades.

    1962 -

  • Bought additional land from Mrs. Rainey.
  • Purchased Rescue M-39 .

    1963 -

  • Added on to enlarge Men's Room.

    1965 -

  • March 13 ... Took delivery on Pumper P-129 .

    1966 -

  • Bingo started.
  • Bad snow storm ... firehall manned for 30+ hours ... P44 used to haul food to people.

    1967 -

  • July 1 ... New Tanker TA-16

    1970 -

  • Added 6 bays ... renovated old hall and refaced old building.
  • Sold 37000 clams (3083 doz) at our first clam tent at the old carnival grounds (now Pines of Perinton)
  • Exempt Club started.

    1971 -

  • Purchased used Ladder Truck from Allentown PA ( Quad-44 ).

    1972 -

  • Purchased Grass Fire Truck ... GF48 (now 337 ) to replace P-44 . P-44 was sold to a member.

    1973 -

  • Revived Carnival, May 17-19 - it snowed!!!!!!

    1974 -

  • Four barn fires in one summer on Aldrich Road.
  • October ... chartered Explorer Post 339.
  • Members remodel the kitchen.

    1976 -

  • Members remodel club room in memory of a deceased fireman.

    1977 -

  • Ladies had their first annual Palm Sunday pancake breakfast.

    1978 -

  • Installed emergency generator in hall.
  • Purchase land at Mosley Rd. and Garnsey Rd for Station II.

    1979 -

  • Dedicated Station II -- a joint venture with the Bushnell's Basin Fire Department.

    1980 -

  • Ordered Rescue truck ( R-337 ) to replace M-39 .

    1981 -

  • New Pumper P-334.
  • Donated old Pumper P-14 to Birdsal Fire Co.
  • Repurchased P-44 from member ... restored in time for Memorial Day Parade.
  • September ... P-44 was dedicated to Maurice Suhr - a charter member of the department.

    1984 -

  • Purchased a Pierce Pumper to replace P-332 . Converted old P-332 to a tanker and renumbered TA-336 .
  • Sold TA-16 .

    1985 -

  • March ... Reviewed Long Range Planning proposal for renovation of Station I.

    1986 -

  • Went on the Monroe County 911 Emergency Phone system
  • Completed renovation of Station I.
  • New Attack Truck A-336 placed in service - TA-336 sold.

    1987 -

  • A new computer was purchased for keeping minutes, budgets and data collection.
  • New Pierce Pumper placed in service (P-335).

    1988 -

  • Egypt Ladies Auxiliary celebrated forty years of service.

    1989 -

  • 3rd Battalion Fire Police chartered. Egypt Fire Police Captain Ralph Webb elected president.
  • Looked into upgrading base radio system.

    1990 -

  • New base radio installed.
  • Loaned Bushnell's Basin our half of Station II for four weeks while they underwent construction on their Station I for their new Quint.

    1991 -

  • Ice Storm of 1991. Egypt responded to 183 water problem, 40 wires down, 11 hazardous conditions, and 18 fire calls (2 working house fires).

    1992 -

  • Bumps Mance appointed 3rd battalion Coordinator.
  • Refurbished P-334 into Rescue-Pumper 334.
  • Egypt's Ski Team took first place in the firemens competition at Bristol Mt. Ski Center.

    1993 -

  • Ice Rescue Team formed.

    1994 -

  • Ice Rescue Team placed in service.

    1995 -

  • Took delivery of Saulsbury Rescue (R-338).
  • Purchased first chiefs vehicle .
  • Building Committee proposal for an addition and renovation of Station I was approved and construction started.

    1998 -

  • Labor Day wind storm closed most district roads with downed trees. Egypt assisted other agencies with clearing roads.

    1999 -

  • March ... 42 inches of snow falls in 3 days. Egypt station manned for an extended period.
  • August ... Sold L-331 to Moravia FD (NY).
  • Placed order for Q-330 American Lafrance/LTI 110' Quint
  • Purchase land to the east of the current firehall.

    2000 -

  • Egypt participates in Memorial Day Parade with new Class A Uniforms.
  • December 4 ... Q-330 placed in service

    2001 -

  • Placed order for American LaFrance RP-334 (October).

    2002 -

  • RP-334 placed in service

    2003 -

  • Ice storm of 2003 - Egypt manned for 2+ days - over 100 responses.
  • 2nd chiefs vehicle placed in service on first day of ice storm.

    2004 -

  • 3rd chiefs vehicle placed in service
  • Egypt receives grant from Assemblyman David Coon for the purchase of medium and high pressure air bags.
  • Egypt receives FEMA grant for the upgrade of all SCBA and the purchase of new portables and pagers.
